Who we are

RTC North is one of Europe's leading technology transfer companies.

We employ over 80 people at offices in the North East, North West and Yorkshire, from where we successfully deliver a mix of innovation and business growth programmes, designed to help businesses to innovate, compete and grow.

Our history

Launched in 1989 in Sunderland, RTC North was one of 12 Regional Technology Centres established around the country to help manufacturers develop new products and services by accessing expertise within regional universities. Whilst others have failed to adapt to self-financing status over the years, RTC North has grown steadily into its current position as a trusted and long-established business support organisation on a regional, national and international level.

Gordon Ollivere

Our founder

Gordon Ollivere

Gordon Ollivere MBE founded RTC North as a very small publicly funded project in 1987 and grew the company into the reputable business we know today.

Gordon’s business journey started in 1980 when, following 10 years in Africa with his family, he returned to the North East to work with local manufacturing companies. This led him towards a career in technology support and in 1998 Gordon was awarded an MBE for his services to business.

Between 1999 and 2008, Gordon managed a large regional project in the UK and subsequently advised policymakers on the set-up of similar programmes in several EU member countries.

Gordon retired in 2016, and his son, Jamie, is now managing director; Jamie and the team are now working towards the company vision of a Northern economy - which is amongst the most competitive in the world.
