31st Jan 2022

Josh Minto and Rob Stobie have been welcomed into the STEM team. Josh Minto joins as Education Relationships Manager. In his previous role, Josh worked for the Nissan Skills Foundation where he was involved in the preparation and delivery of various STEM project sessions/events.

Through this role, he worked closely with both primary and secondary school teachers by acting as a mentor for teams competing in regional and national competitions such as First Lego League and Vex Robotics. Josh graduated from the University of Sunderland in 2021 with a BA Hons degree in Childhood Studies, where he wrote his dissertation on “Why are there fewer girls participating in STEM subjects at GCSE?” Josh's new role involves raising awareness and understanding of the STEM agenda, working with regional stakeholders and partners, raising the profile of the North East STEM Hub, and providing quality interactions with regional schools and colleges.

Rob joins the team as Enrichment Partnership Coordinator, during his RAF career, Rob became a STEM Ambassador and organised and supported many events and activities for children in Lincolnshire. He also enjoyed 15 years coaching and mentoring many of his colleagues and went on to get a PGCert in the subject.

Building on his love of coaching and mentoring and STEM, he moved into a career as a Secondary Maths Teacher, helping to mold and grow the next generation. He also ran a STEM club and organised an event to help promote STEM during this time. Working specifically on the Nuffield Research Placements Programme Rob will work alongside host organisations to provide targeted students an engaging, hands-on research placement that develops confidence, helps apply skills and knowledge developed at school whilst also discovering possible career paths as they work alongside researchers and industry professionals.

Janine Marshall, STEM Hub Contract Manager at RTC, commented:

“I am delighted to welcome both Josh and Rob to the STEM team, this is a really exciting time for the North East STEM Hub as we continue to widen the reach to our regional young people and work alongside our regional partners and stakeholders in a truly joined-up approach. We believe in working in collaboration to provide the impact that our young people deserve and our region needs”.
