Kinewell Energy launches next-generation KLOC inter-array cable layout optimisation software with cloud-based web-app interface.

Kinewell Energy has unveiled a game-changing evolution of their unique artificial intelligence-based inter-array cable layout optimisation technology, KLOC, at Global Offshore Wind 2022.

Kinewell Energy’s KLOC solution typically saves offshore wind developers in the region of 20% of cable CAPEX over the project life. It does this by rapidly designing an economically optimised interarray cable layout, appropriately prioritising the optimisation of capital costs against operational costs such as electrical losses. Through the optimisation process, cable length is reduced, lowering CAPEX while also reducing electrical losses and maximising energy sales.

The next-generation KLOC tool launched at Global Offshore Wind 2022 utilises cloud computing and is accessed via an intuitive web-app. This means licensed Software as a Service (SaaS) clients can access KLOC anywhere, anytime, using a desktop, laptop, tablet or even their mobile phone.

Kinewell Energy, a Tyneside based company, delivered the game-changing upgrade to KLOC after securing a share of over £2m in match-funding from the North of Tyne Combined Authority (NTCA) TIGGOR programme, delivered by the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult and backed by offshore wind industry giants, Equinor and EDF Renewables.

Dr Andrew Jenkins, CEO and Founder of Kinewell Energy said:

“We are thrilled to finally be able to unveil the next-generation KLOC, delivering productivity gains to engineering teams through the web-app interface, while also substantially increasing the value-added of the underlying optimisation engine. We’ve pioneered a new platform technology that enables many future innovations, which will be released to the market over the coming months, reducing the cost of offshore wind deployment and accelerating the transition to net-zero. The NTCA investment in us to deliver on this programme of innovation has been truly transformational.”

Kinewell Energy was recognised at VentureFest North East in March 2022, as one of the most innovative companies in the region. Kinewell Energy are exhibiting at Stand 160 of Global Offshore Wind 2022 as part of the OREC’s Gamechanger Pavilion that is showcasing the most innovative SMEs of the offshore wind industry.

Dr Andrew Jenkins, CEO and Founder of Kinewell Energy, will be formally launching the next generation KLOC web-app at the Vestas Innovation Theatre of Global Offshore Wind on Tuesday 21 June 2022 as part of the ‘Pitch and Brew’ event during 15:50-16:30. Kinewell Energy is a rapidly growing company and has a successful history of delivering both optimisation consultancy and KLOC licensing to the European, Japanese, US and Chinese offshore wind markets. The team have experience of delivering over 13 GW of offshore wind cable layout optimisation projects, in addition to those projects undertaken by clients under license.
