RTC supports Tait Walker improve internal systems


Staff at award winning accountancy practice, Tait Walker, completed two of our training programmes Nurture: CMI Certificate in Management Coaching and Mentoring and Inspire: CMI Certificate in Management and Leadership earlier this year.

The Challenge

Due to ongoing expansion in internal services, Tait Walker needed a formal training to equip staff with the knowledge and expertise they needed to be able to progress within the firm. It was perfect timing for our training programmes to assist Tait Walker.

Sarah Gilby, wealth support & finance manager said:

“We needed to supply a Management and Leadership training course for our staff because we had people who were wanting to progress to a managerial level, but we have no formal training in house to prepare staff for this step.

“It was relevant for those we could see could progress throughout the firm. I did the course myself and I thought it was brilliant.

The Solution

“Mica was absolutely fantastic, she came across really well. It was in a relaxed environment, everyone could have their say, voice their thoughts and opinions. We tend to do a lot of courses individually, so it was certainly good for everyone.”

At the time when staff did the training course, the company were still in the process of reviewing their appraisal system. They have subsequently taken away and applied techniques they have learnt from the course in the development of the new system.

Sarah added: “From the course we learnt a lot about reviewing and managing performance, we looked at different personality types which I found really useful as I currently appraise a team of 11 and it was good to understand what motivates them. I have used some of the techniques that Mica taught us in the course in managing my staff.

“Mica grasped the gaps we had and tailored the course to our business by giving practical examples and clear explanations.”

The Impact

Leonard Birnie, financial planner at Tait Walker took up the CMI Certificate in Management Coaching and Mentoring course as he was moving from back office technical role to a client facing role: “I took up the course mainly for personal development as I needed to develop my soft skills when speaking to individuals and the course helped massively with that.

“The course was extremely well delivered, Mica was really friendly and put us all at ease when it came to express our own opinions. The course really broadened my knowledge about what coaching, and mentoring is and how I can apply at my workplace.

“I took quite a bit from the course from a coaching perspective and I feel more confident now when meeting with clients.”
