Cumbria LEP, Innovate UK and University of Cumbria invite SMEs to innovate

SMEs in Cumbria will receive free business guidance and support from some of the county’s leading economic growth organisations at an innovation summit later this month.

The Cumbria LEP, Innovate UK, Knowledge Transfer Network, Enterprise Europe Network and Cumbria Innovations Platform will all be offering their expertise at an Innovation Summit aimed at creating commercial growth for ambitious businesses in Cumbria.

The Innovation Summit is the first of 2 free business growth events for Cumbrian SMEs as part of the ERDF-funded Cumbria Innovations Platform (CUSP).

The event, Big Ideas for the Future at Cumbria LEP Conference Centre in Penrith on 30th October, will see talks delivered by economic growth leaders in Cumbria, the Cumbria LEP, and representatives from the UK’s innovation agency, the Innovate UK family and their network partner, Knowledge Transfer Network.

Businesses will engage in conversations and workshops around highly current topics from Industry 4.0 to Innovation Canvas, to help accelerate the development of services and products within their organisations.

Eligible SMEs will also have the opportunity for 1-2-1 discussions around their own ideas and challenges with experts, and find out about the support available to them.

Sarah Allison, Senior Project Officer for Cumbria Innovations Platform supports eligible SMEs to access support through the project.

“This event is another real opportunity for businesses in Cumbria to come together, talk about innovation, and make steps to continue SME business growth in our county. There are lots of micro-businesses and SMEs within Cumbria that have innovative ideas but may not have the resources to make them a reality. This summit is all about finding these businesses and supporting them through their innovation journey.”

Rick Holland, Innovate UK NW Regional Manager, who will be speaking at the summit said:

“SMEs need funding, collaborators with the right skills, helpful support from experts, and access to specialist facilities. This event will cover all of these and more.”

SMEs with innovative ideas not yet ready for market can receive support from Cumbria Innovations Platform in the form of research projects by student researchers, university facility access and academic expertise. If you’d like to discuss this opportunity, get in touch with the team.

Big Ideas for the Future will be held on Tuesday 30th October, 09:00-15:00 at the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership Conference Centre in Penrith.
