Design Sprint Workshop
Design Sprints are being used more and more within businesses to accelerate and broaden the creative process. Many businesses find they can create more value in five days than they would in five months, if they’d used their standard processes.
The Sprint process, popularised and championed by Google, condenses the innovation process into five key stages –
Understand – unpacking the problem or issue to gain deep insights
Explore – creating a broad range of ideas and potential solutions
Focus – selecting a manageable number to take forward
Prototype – creating a model to develop the idea
Validate – testing out the product with real users
While the principles of a design sprint are very simple, managing the process does require some skill and preparation, and this workshop will guide you through the process of preparing, hosting and managing a design sprint, either within your organisation or with your clients.
Who should attend?
Large organisations, SMEs, entrepreneurs, facilitators, designers, coaches, consultants, and strategists can apply this methodology to implement this powerful process in the work they do.
You will be introduced to the Design Sprint methodology. You will learn about the five key phases and how they flow into one another, the key outputs from each stage, and tools and techniques to ensure each stage delivers results.
You will also learn about how to prepare for a sprint, how to select the right people, how to manage the process, and how to embed the principles within an organisation so it becomes a standard tool for innovation.
About the facilitator
hedgehog lab is an award-winning international digital agency based in Newcastle upon Tyne and with offices in Copenhagen, Boston and Hyderabad. The company have embraced the design sprint methodology, resulting in a number of successful sprints with companies such as Northumbrian Water, SMD and Thales amongst others.
Design leads David Miller and Luke Medlock will be on hand to guide participants through the five stages of design sprints in an interactive workshop in which we'll pose solutions to genuine problems.
David has been a part of the design team for almost three years - broken up by a short spell as a designer at Atom Bank before returning in a more senior role. With a total of 10 years in design, David has plenty of experience within the industry working with well known brands such asnickelodeon, Random house, Discovery Channel, Jaguar and Microsoft and has recently taken a more active role in customer interaction, often leading design sprints with hedgehog lab partners.
Luke meanwhile moved into role of lead designer back in February after making a considerable impact throughout his two years at our Newcastle headquarters as a UI/UX Designer. Having worked with well-known brands such as Adobe, Smirnoff, Penguin Books and Glastonbury Festival in his own time, he is well-versed in meeting the needs of customers and is a popular public speaker throughout the region.
