Empowering Managers to Lead with Clarity and Confidence

24th Jul 2025

Over the course of four hands-on, practical sessions, managers and businesses owners came together to take part in the ‘Be Brilliant at Balancing Workload’ programme – a transformative experience designed to help leaders regain control of their time, boost confidence, and manage workload without burnout.

Ran by ScaleUp North East, delivered by RTC North, these fully funded sessions have been a success in bringing like-minded people together. Led by Angelina Bell, a coach with 25+ years of expertise supporting managers and business leaders, this programme focused on real-world application, not just theory. Each session offered tools, techniques, and immediately usable strategies that participants could take back into their roles right away.

One session participant said:

“Since starting these sessions, I’ve implemented several new habits - like time blocking and using the priority quadrants we worked through. These tools helped me understand what's truly important versus what’s urgent. Before, I was constantly juggling tasks and dropping things because I'd immediately jump in to help others in the moment. Now taking the time to pause and assess what really needs my attention has made a huge difference in how I manage my workload - it's been a game changer in my work life.”

One of the most powerful outcomes of the programme was the shared experience among like-minded professionals. By bringing together leaders from different industries, the sessions created space to step back, reflect, and discuss the barriers they were facing – both personally and professionally. Participants found value not only in the expert coaching, but also in hearing from others who were dealing with similar pressures.

One session participant commented:

“I really enjoyed working with peers in a group setting. It was great to connect with people from a wide range of industries and career levels - and reassuring to realise that so many of us face similar challenges. Hearing others share what works for them and learning different approaches was incredibly valuable. Knowing we were all in the same boat created a supportive and positive environment that made the experience even more enjoyable.”

Throughout the programme, participants explored a range of practical strategies and tools designed to support effective workload management. These included:

  • Time and priority management frameworks
  • Techniques for staying focussed under pressure
  • Approaches to leading with confidence

Optional one-to-one coaching provided personalised support, allowing participants to address specific, real-life challenges in their roles.

Participants reported real, lasting changes in how they manage their work, their teams, and themselves. Whether it was feeling more in control, better able to set boundaries, or simply having more clarity about what matters, the feedback highlighted meaningful impact.

One session participant said:

“Since starting the course, I’ve realised that many others are in similar situations to me. It helped me identify challenges I hadn’t even recognised before. Not only has it helped me manage my workload more effectively, but it’s also opened my eyes to new areas I need to address and work on.”

Angelina Bell, ScaleUp North East Partner commented:

“The participants on this course have truly been on a transformative journey. From where they started to where they are now, it’s been inspiring to witness their growth. Over just four sessions, they’ve gained practical tools and insights to better manage their workloads. They’re more confident, motivated, and ready to put what they’ve learned into practice, not just to improve their own performance, but to make a real impact within their companies.”

The Be Brilliant at Balancing Workload sessions have proven to be highly valuable for managers and business owners who want change. By equipping them with tools, space for reflection, and support, they now have more sustainability ways of working.
