The Northern Design Quest takes people of all ages on a journey through design, showing them how great products are created, and giving them the opportunity to come up with their own product ideas.
They're given their design brief at the Great North Museum - to come up with a product that makes travel more enjoyable, easier or accessible - and then at various venues around Newcastle and Gateshead they come up with ideas, research them and refine them. Then at Toffee Factory they get to build a model of their product. And that's where you come in.
This will be one of the more popular stages of the Quest and we'd love to have people on hand to help out. You don't need any specialist skills, just the ability to give encouragement and advice. But if you do have knowlege of design, engineering etc this will be a good chance to share it, and maybe inspire some of the younger ones. Visitors will be using simple materials to build their models - card, paper, fabric etc, so there's nothing complicated to manage. There will also be Great Exhibition volunteers on hand to help out.
We're asking volunteers to sign up for one of two sessions - 10am till 2pm, and 2pm till 5.30pm.
Once you sign up you'll be sent a volunteer pack with more details
We're not sure how many people will turn up each day, but hopefully you won't be bored.
And you never know, might just inspire the George Stepenson or Jonny Ive of the future.
