Trilift UK Ltd was incorporated a year ago in the UK and specialises in the production and distribution of innovative transportation for mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs, the Trilift product is lightweight, secure and easy to assemble.
The product is made by Trilift USA in America, where it has been manufactured and sold for over ten years.
Trilift became clients of RTC North in 2018, following a recommendation from the North East Chamber of Commerce.
Paul Joules, Managing Director of Trilift said:
“We needed support to identify the approval requirements and standards required in order to trade the Trilift product across UK and EU markets.
“We’ve had to learn on our feet regarding; importing products, costs, import duties etc. We didn’t have an understanding of the funding options that were available to us and also what standards had to be met in order for us to be able to trade in the UK and EU markets.
“This is where RTC intervened to assist us. Our Pathways to Innovation advisor Wayne Bryant conducted research and produced a report detailing the businesses next steps and possible opportunities.
“Wayne advised that CE marking of the product was essential as the CE mark is a certification mark that indicates conformity with health, safety, and environmental protection standards for products sold within the European Economic area, in addition to this it could potentially help open doors for sales with more established, larger clients and into European markets
“He also discussed the possibility of us conforming with the ISO9001 certification standard as this could increase the saleability of the product especially if we decided to tender for larger contracts; Governments, Schools etc.
“Wayne’s support was invaluable, he helped us to confidently make some crucial decisions for the business. At this stage we are still deciding whether to apply to attain the ISO9001 certification standard, there are financial factors and time constraints still be taken into consideration before taking this decision. We will be applying for CE marking shortly.
“The support received from RTC has helped us take the business a step closer to achieving our development aspirations and has also provided us with some brilliant knowledge and expertise.”
